SYMPOSIUM OF MEDITERRANEAN FOOD MARKETS IN BARCELONA
The Barcelona Institute of Markets is organising the “Symposium of Mediterranean Food Markets and 8th Symposium of the Food Markets of Barcelona”, an International Congress which is to take place in Barcelona on June 4-5.
The encounter is the closing event of the European Union Med Emporion Project, led by the City of Barcelona - with the participation of Turin, Genova and Marseilles – and aimed at developing and promoting food markets.
The activities of the symposium will take place over two days, starting on Monday June 4 at 09:00 hrs. with the Symposium itself, and continuing through June 5 with a guided visit to some of our leading food markets.
The meeting is to tackle diverse issues, running from the organisation of food markets, their refurbishment and the provision of new services through to sales and competitive strategies and the incorporation of new product trends (km 0, DO, PGI, Slow Food, quality produce, etc.). In the afternoon, we will be hosting a panel session, which will be presenting the results of the research carried out on Mediterranean Food Markets within the framework of the Med Emporion Project.
We have invited a representative of the EU Retail Department, the directors of the MED Programme, diverse experts in food markets and other local and regional authorities. If you attend, you will have the opportunity of meeting the directors of food markets from diverse European and non-European cities and of stating your opinion regarding the different subject matters to be discussed.
Among the cities invited you will find, a part of Barcelona, Marseilles, Genoa and Torino, the cities of Istanbul, The Cairo, Beirut or London. Markets responsible of many other cities from very diverse countries will assist also to the event as public. The speaker's profiles range from general managers of city markets, architects, cookers, sellers and producers.
We believe our symposium will help us to learn about the new tendencies, challenges and improved governance process that will conform the XXIst century markets.
Simultaneous translation to and from English will be provided for all of the sessions. You will also find several documentation introducing the several Workshops and round tables of the Symposium.
