The “MARKET OF MARKETS” Second Edition
The big Fair of the City Markets and Mediterranean Products will soon arrive again to Barcelona, the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of October.
The Fair will take place again in the heart of Barcelona, between Avinguda de la Catedral and Avinguda Francesc Cambó.
The first edition of the Mercat de Mercats Fair, organized in Barcelona the last year in the frame of the MED EMPORION project, was such a success that the Barcelona Institute of Markets and the Generalitat of Catalonia have decided to repeat this year the experience.
The City of Barcelona and the Generalitat de Catalunya, had thus decided to keep alive the original idea of the "Mercat de Mercats" as it was conceived in the mentioned project funded by the EU. This Fair has the main aim of creating a big Mediterranean Market: the promotion of economic activities linked to the production and distribution of the country's food, raising awareness of the benefits of eating the fresh and quality food products found in our markets, and to convey the social values and the role that markets have had, and continue to have, in our cities.
In this sense, one of the main goals of the Fair is to make the citizens aware of the social values that our markets have: traders interact with their costumers catching up their attention on the freshness and quality of the Mediterranean products they sell, and the importance of eating local, fresh and healthy food. Concepts like healthy eating, sustainability, the promotion of the Mediterranean diet and the relation of the countryside and the city, are provided in a natural way by our markets.
Over the three days visitors will be able to treat themselves to tapas prepared, courtesy of restaurant chefs, with market food, and to wine, cava and olive oil-tasting sessions, and to discover at first hand the quality, local food of stallholders, producers and farmers. This way, our markets and producers will be in the light spot of our media, citizens and visitors.
MED ANNUAL CONGRESS and the MED EMPORION project.
The MED PROGRAM, in recognition of the vitality of the Mediterranean markets and the great visibility achieved by the MED EMPORION project with activities like this, will inaugurate the 2011 annual congress of the MED Program in the Barcelona's Market "Mercat de la Concepció", with a press conference. This MED Annual Congress will take place just before the inauguration of the Fair, the 18th and 19th of October, and all its participants are kindly invited to visit us and enjoy a true Mediterranean atmosphere in the Fair.
