“The Market of All Markets”, Barcelona 22-24 October 2010
In the Mediterranean culture, the market has contributed and continues to remain a central theme of city life, not just for the exchange of goods and services, but also as a meeting point and as a place for recreation.
All across the Mediterranean, both northern and southern coasts, the market has become a place of leisure for citizens, thanks to its connotations of healthy and fresh products, and a tourist attraction.
We want the citizens of our cities to share and to understand the value of the Mediterranean markets, the role they have played and will intend to play in the future, how they are transforming to adapt to new times without loosing its character and how is contributing the MED EMPORION project and Barcelona to face these challenges.
With this aim, and by providing gastronomic offerings and activities, we have created the "Market of All Markets", to capture everything that goes on at the market; form the cellar to the market's square itself.
This Fair will congregate many of the 40 markets of the city, a representation of the best of the partner markets (Marseille, Torino and Genoa) among others, a wine market, cooking demonstrations, presence of Institutions, Denomination of Origin products, and a wide range of activities with citizens participation in the Market Square.
The visitors will be able to know the origin, qualities and varieties of the main Mediterranean products, to participate in cooking lessons carried out by prestigious chefs and in workshops about Mediterranean products. Citizens will enjoy educational activities, addressed to public of all ages.
The activities are addressed to all the population, and especially to the youngest and those that do not yet know all the potentiality of the market as a commercial establishment.
Situated at the Pla de la Catedral and Pla de Santa Caterina, the former will house the "Market of All Markets" and the latter will be used for guest markets and other activities.
In Barcelona. The Mediterranean in just one market space. The Market of All Markets.
