The 7th MED Programme Monitoring Committee meeting will take place in Barcelona on the 18th October 2011.

Members of the committee will take advantage of this occasion to visit the Mercat de la Concepció, where the partnership of the MED EMPORION project will explain the main activities developed during the operation and will describe the main achievements so far. A cocktail with Catalonian products will be offered in the market to the delegations.

 

A part of the lead partner, the Barcelona Institute of Markets, representatives of the other partners of the MED EMPORION project will be present at the event: the Cities of Torino and Genoa, and the Conservatorie des Cuisines Méditerranneés of Marseille, and Conservatoria delle Cucine Mediterranee del Piemonte.

With the inauguration of the MED Annual Congress in Barcelona, the MED Program wishes to recognize the vitality and importance of the markets in our Mediterranean cities: the markets as a tool for urban development and city planning, its important  economic role (in our cities and abroad), the fact that are a very efficient platform to make the citizenship aware of the importance of the product of proximity, the Mediterranean diet and healthy eating, and not forgiving the role of the market as a tool for social cohesion. All of them are values very linked to our culture.

The MED EMPORION project has been a very active project and obtained a big impact in the general public, thanks to the combination of open activities for all the citizens, like big market Fairs and a very practical conception of our pilot projects, which in many occasions involved the citizens and professionals.

 Weekend: Visit the Barcelona Market Fair (21st - 23rd October).

One of the most relevant activities organized in terms of public impact, have been the Market Fairs, which took place in the most central places of cities like Genoa, Torino, Marseille and Barcelona. Our citizen's response has been so enthusiastic, that the Barcelona Institute of Markets has decided to make a second edition of this Fair, to which all the participants of the MED Annual Congress are invited to visit, and that will take place from the 21st to the 23rd October.
